Wow! What a Cover! GIRL ON THE GOLDEN COIN: A NOVEL OF FRANCES STUART by Marci Jefferson

GIRL ON THE GOLDEN COIN: A NOVEL OF FRANCES STUART
Marci Jefferson’s first novel is about Frances Stuart, who rejected three kings and graced England’s coins for generations as the model for Britannia. The book will release February 11, 2014 from Thomas Dunne Books / St. Martin’s Press. But pre-order this week and comment on Marci’s blog for a chance to win a pair of sterling-silver pearl-drop earrings like the ones Frances wears on this elegant cover (be prepared to present your receipt).
MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
Impoverished and exiled to the French countryside after the overthrow of the English Crown, Frances Stuart survives merely by her blood-relation to the Stuart Royals. But in 1660, the Restoration of Stuart Monarchy in England returns her family to favor. Frances discards threadbare gowns and springs to gilded Fontainebleau Palace, where she soon catches King Louis XIV’s eye. But Frances is no ordinary court beauty, she has Stuart secrets to keep and people to protect. The king turns vengeful when she rejects his offer to become his Official Mistress. He banishes her to England with orders to seduce King Charles II and stop a war.
Armed in pearls and silk, Frances maneuvers through the political turbulence of Whitehall Palace, but still can’t afford to stir a scandal. Her tactic to inspire King Charles to greatness captivates him. He believes her love can make him an honest man and even chooses Frances to pose as Britannia for England’s coins. Frances survives the Great Fire, the Great Plague, and the debauchery of the Restoration Court, yet loses her heart to the very king she must control. Until she is forced to choose between love or war.

On the eve of England’s Glorious Revolution, James II forces Frances to decide whether to remain loyal to her Stuart heritage or, like England, make her stand for Liberty. Her portrait as Britannia is minted on every copper coin. There she remains for generations, an enduring symbol of Britain’s independent spirit and her own struggle for freedom.

ADVANCE PRAISE
"In her wonderfully evocative debut, Girl on the Golden Coin, Marci Jefferson recreates the fascinating story of Frances Stuart, whose influence over England's Charles II became the talk of a nation. As vibrant and delightful as the woman it's based on, Girl on the Golden Coin is a jewel of a novel!"
—Michelle Moran, New York Times bestselling author of The Second Empress and Madame Tussaud

"Beauty is not always a blessing, as young Frances Stuart finds out when her lovely face pits her between the desires and politics of rival kings Louis XIV and Charles II. Frances makes an appealing heroine, by turns wary and passionate, sophisticated and innocent, as she matures from destitute young pawn to the majestic duchess whose figure would grace Britain's coins for centuries. Her struggles to support her loved ones, uncover her family secrets, and somehow find a life of her own amid the snake-pit courts of the Sun King and the Merry Monarch make for lively, entertaining reading in this lush Restoration novel by debut author Marci Jefferson."
—Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of Mistress of Rome

"Girl on the Golden Coin is a fantastic novel. I couldn’t put it down. The plot is fast-paced and compelling, with intriguing characters, lush settings and captivating narrative voice. Jefferson’s debut paints an intriguing portrait of Frances Stuart, a novel worthy of the determined, golden spirit of the woman whose face became the model for Britannia herself."
—Susan Spann, author of Claws of the Cat

“Girl on the Golden Coin is a sexy, exciting tale featuring vivid characters, rich historical detail, scintillating court intrigue, and a complexly rendered heroine in Frances Stuart, Maid of Honor to the Queen of England, who will capture the reader’s heart -- as will the man she loves, that rascal King Charles II.”

and a $25 Gift Card for Barnes & Noble

*see details below

1.      Since your last interview on Addicted to Words, which strangely enough was almost exactly one year ago (read here), how has your life changed?
I got so so so so much busier. LOL.  Writing under contract is very different than when you’re just under your own timeline, so that was eye-opening.
2.      Will there be a sequel to The Reason is You?
Not at this time, my next book is a stand-alone.
3. What are you writing now?
;) it’s still in the infant stage…so can’t say…it might turn to goo if I do.
4.  Will you have a new book coming out soon?
My second book, BEFORE AND EVER SINCE, is scheduled to come out in November.
5.  Book signings? Where can we meet you and get our copies of The Reason is You signed?
I will be doing a May 19th book signing in Beaumont, TX.  I’m also looking at some Houston stores, but I don’t have any dates yet.  My website www.sharlalovelace.com has a “What’s Happening” tab that I try to stay diligent about updating, so you can always check there.  In any case, I’m always happy to mail out a signed bookplate sticker for your book.  Shoot me a message on the Contact form on my website, and I’ll get one out to you.  It’s not as fun and personal, but it beats driving 500 miles. LOL!
6.  What are your plans for the future, when all of this crazy release stuff settles down, anything you can’t wait to do that you’ve had to put on hold?
 Go on vacation!!
7.  Goodreads…are you going to peek at the reviews, or duck and run?
Ohhh, I can already tell I’m going to be a bit obsessive at first.  I already go looking.  J  But I’m only giving myself a couple of weeks to indulge, and then I’m walking away from that.  It’s not good for the muse!
8.  Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Do your research on agents and editors, and customize to them…make it personal.  And make it professional.  And develop a thick skin.
9.  Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers, fans…or Goodreads reviewers?
I appreciate any and every person that buys my book…the whole experience is very surreal and it still seems bizarre to me that the book is out there.  I hope you all enjoy it, and will tell your friends!
10.  Where can we find more interviews with you?
Well, for the next fifteen days, I’m on a blog tour with Goddess Fish Promotions, and you can see all the stops here:  http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2012/01/virtual-book-tour-reason-is-you-by.html  or go to my website to the “What’s Happening” page…I have them listed there by date.
11.  Where can we buy The Reason is You?
All major bookstores around the country, and online as well. Also on Amazon.

In Honor of JK Rowling

July’s Give Away starts now to celebrate the launch of Pottermore!

And goes until July 31st for Harry Potter’s birthday.

Since the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, I have been a giant geeky Potterhead. I’ve attended every midnight release and party (in costume and/or painting faces) for the books and movies.

Sadly, I've never had the honor of meeting Ms. Rowling, but I still hold out hope.

The opening day at Pottermore has been ... well, let's just say the website can't handle the traffic and has been crashing all day, due to the overwhelming amount of people trying to submit their email addresses (me too!).

It's going to be awesome though, so make sure to check it out.

A sneak peak of what the site will look like after October.

Here's the good news for you my loyal followers. I am saluting you, by giving one lucky winner a Hogwarts Express load of Harry Potter books and memorabilia.

1. A personalized Hogwarts Acceptance Letter.

2. The complete gift set of years 1-7.

3. A DARK TIMES AHEAD T-Shirt (available in M-L)

4. Harry Potter's wand and case.
5. Hermione Granger's Time Turner.
6. Slytherin's Locket Horcrux

 And there you have it.

To enter:

1. Leave your name, favorite Hogwarts house and favorite Harry Potter book or movie.

2. Tweet, blog or Facebook this contest and paste the link (you may enter this contest once for each link - up to 3 entries).

3. Leave your email so I can contact you if you win.

4. In six words or less, describe Harry Potter and his magical world as you see it.

Have fun and good luck.

Interview with Soon-to-be-Published Author Lindsay Cummings

Hi Lindsay and thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us.

Normally I wouldn’t ask this, but I know you’re young and I feel so inspired by your age, will you tell us how old you are?

Before I answer that, I want everyone to know that I’m not the next literary Justin Beiber. I’m 19, but…I’ll be 20 in exactly 10 days!

You have something else that sets you apart from other author stories too. Will you tell us how Chronic Fatigue Syndrome has affected your life?

I grew up surfing, running, and playing ice hockey as the only female in an all-male league in high school. I’ve always been super super active. Until I got sick about 2 years ago. It’s been a rough journey, feeling exhausted, dizzy, nauseous, and just plain weak every day of my life. BUT..I would not trade it for the WORLD! Getting sick allowed me to open my eyes and see that, hey, I’m going to have to find something I love to do, that my body can handle! And that was writing. It has saved my life, given me something to look forward to every day!

What advice do you have for people who want to follow a dream, but think they can’t?

Dreams are just that….dreams. Something you think about every day, that you can NEVER get out of your mind. If you’re like me, you think about your dreams first thing in the morning, and last thing at night before your head hits the pillow. If you have something you are THAT passionate about, nothing should be able to stop you. Seriously. Nothing. Sometimes it’s a rough road to reaching your dreams, but hey…imagine the day you finally do…that’s a moment you can’t ever replace.

How did you get interested in writing? Do you remember a specific moment when you thought, “That’s what I want to do?”

I’ve written since I was tiny. My dad is an amazing writer, so I guess I just followed his lead! But when I got sick, at 18, I remember a year of surgeries, painful recoveries, etc. Reading books helped me escape. I thought, “hey, I can do this for someone else. And while I’m writing those books, I can escape too!” It just went naturally from there.

How many books have you written and what inspired you to write them?

Two full novels. My first involved a world full of walls…literally and figuratively. It helped me escape from my own walls in my life. My second one, whose title will remain unnamed (because It’s the one I just signed with my agent with and I don’t want anyone to steal my wonderful title or idea!), is my favorite by far…I guess you could count the 30pg horse story I wrote in middle school about all of our farm animals.

What does your writing space look like, is it a laptop on the go, or the same quiet corner every time?

Most of the time, it’s just our awful centuries-old blue plaid couches that are still just squishy enough to feel comfortable for a few hours. When I need a change of scenery, I take my Ipad to Starbucks and guzzle peppermint hot chocolate while writing.

How much of your personality interjects your story’s characters?

Oh gosh. This one is sort of a joke with my awesome beta readers. I am literally my main character in every book. I’m brave, way too sarcastic and pessimistic, I love to kick (insert cuss word that starts with an A) and my hair is tangly, blonde, and way too long! I also have a tendency to make the man who loves me chase me until he’s just at his wits end (I could write another novel about my poor, wonderful boyfriend Josh and his journey to getting me to give in).

I know you recently had some exciting news in your efforts to become a published author, please share.

I GOT AN AGENT!! It still feels crazy to say that. After obsessing over Querytracker and Publisher’s Marketplace for 3 months, I’m like… “what the heck am I supposed to do now?! Guess I could always start my next novel…Or watch reruns of America’s Next Top Model. Yes. That is what I’ll do.”

If your book sold tomorrow for some insane amount of money, what are the first five things you would do?

Scream. Dance with no rhythm. Yell at my German Shepherds, b/c in my hysteria they’d get stoked and chase my cat. Then I’d call Candie Campbell and scream her ear off. Also, I’d have my mom cook me spaghetti for dinner. (I realize this is sort of a let down…I’m not the type to go splurge on a Ferrari. Although I would actually buy a pair of these amazing leather boots at Freepeople.com …so let’s add that to my list!) OH! And another German Shepherd! And a black Escalade with blacked-out rims and tinted windows and leather seats and…..yeah. I guess I would buy some nice things…

Thanks for joining us, Lindsay and please tell us where we can follow your fabulous books, blog and tweets.
